IBM SyNAPSE computer chip

image001Hello Readers…!! this is Ravi again to discuss about a research introduced by IBM (The International Business Machines )on August 7, 2014, known as SyNAPSE Computer Chip.SyNAPSE stands for Systems of Neuromorphic Adaptive Plastic Scalable Electronics.
A chip that uses a million digital neurons and 256 million synapses shows the beginning of a new era of more intelligent computers. The chip is more powerful, small and light than the existing option takes inspiration from familiar source: The Human Brain.

It processes data similar to the way human brain does.It is described by the IBM lead researcher Dharmendra Modha as “a supercomputer the size of a stamp, the weight of a feather.” And it consumes the same amount of power as a hearing aid.“I’m holding in my hand a new machine for a new era,” “When we started the SyNAPSE project many people thought it was impossible. As we look to the future, possible can become real. This could open up a whole new frontier of scientific exploration and commercial exploitation.”

5c7313eae12734baea848f48fd21cdcdfa842f78When data is fed into a SyNapse chip it causes a stream of spikes, and its neurons react with a storm of further spikes. The just over one million neurons on the chip are organized into 4,096 identical blocks of 250, an arrangement inspired by the structure of mammalian brains, which appear to be built out of repeating circuits of 100 to 250 neurons, says Dharmendra Modha, chip involves Programming and chooses which neurons are connected, and how strongly they influence one another. ibm-creates-new-synapse-chip-to-further-cognitive-comptuingIBM chips requires new approach programming.“Programs” are written using special blueprints known as corelets. Each corelet specifies the basic functioning of a network of neurosynaptic cores.Corelets can be linked into more and more complex structures. Modha also clarified that the chip is not “any brain” With current technology, a chip that fully replicated the brain would consume as much energy as several cities.

Thank you…….Keep hitting and Do share !!!
